Description

Centner Academy Speech & Debate Summer Workshop will take place from June 30th to July 11th at the Elementary Campus. Workshop hours are from 9am to 12pm, for students from rising 6th grade to rising 11th grade. Weekly price is $100 (lunch not provided).

 

Building off of the success from the 2024-25 season, this Speech and Debate Summer Workshop will prepare students to compete in tournaments for the upcoming school year.  All events will be covered including:

  • Declamation
  • Informative Speaking
  • Original Oratory
  • Dramatic Interp
  • Program Oral Interp
  • Congressional Debate
  • Extemporaneous Speaking
  • Impromptu speaking
  • Public Forum
  • Lincoln Douglas
 
Each week's group will practice speaking drills, learn the basics of the events that they are interested in and will receive individualized coaching for the events that they choose to partake in. Emphasis will be placed on how to select a topic for the public speaking events, how to construct an Extemp, Impromptu or Congress speech, how to deliver a speech, how to present a performance, how to create a debate case and how to refute arguments given by the opposition. Students will leave the workshop with a firm foundation of their events heading into the 2025-26 season. 

 

All students must bring:

  • Laptop
  • Snack (following school guidelines)
